March 14, East Meadow, NY — MENTOR has announced the 2022 National Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll, and Certilman Balin has once again made its list.

Brian Ziegler and Fred Skolnik, attorneys in the Corporate/Securities Group at the Long Island law firm of Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP, through their involvement with the Mentoring Partnership of Long Island, co-founded the LIKE (Lawyers Involved in Kids’ Education) program. They gathered the firm’s partners, associates and staff members who wanted to make a difference in the lives of elementary school children. They selected Walnut Street Elementary School which is located in Uniondale, near the firm’s East Meadow office.

Over the past 17 years, Certilman Balin employees, as well as friends and family, have visited a local school on a weekly basis, developing relationships with the 4th and 5th grade students and playing word and number games to help the kids improve their analytical skills and self-confidence.  It’s been a rewarding experience for the mentors and the mentees, and they are looking forward to getting back into the classroom, as the program was halted during the pandemic.

The Honor Roll was first launched by First Lady Michelle Obama in 2011 as a challenge to companies to encourage their employees to become volunteer youth mentors. According to MENTOR CEO David Shapiro, “The more than 75 National Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll companies are trailblazing employers who seek to create a culture of mentoring within their companies and the broader community Their examples through strategic investments of time and money drive returns not only in the business but in the larger society where their people live and work.”
