Named to 2024 Mentor NY Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll

MENTOR New York, the state Affiliate of MENTOR National, is a leader in the mentoring movement and works to ensure young people have mentoring opportunities wherever they live, learn, work, and play. We join 18 other companies on the honor roll this year.

Brian Ziegler and Fred Skolnik, attorneys in the Corporate/Securities Group at the Long Island law firm of Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP, through their involvement with the Mentoring Partnership of Long Island, co-founded the LIKE (Lawyers Involved in Kids’ Education) program. They gathered the firm’s partners, associates and staff members who wanted to make a difference in the lives of elementary school children. They selected Walnut Street Elementary School which is located in Uniondale, near the firm’s East Meadow office.

Over the past 18 years, Certilman Balin employees, as well as friends and family, have visited a local school on a weekly basis, developing relationships with the 4th and 5th grade students and playing word and number games to help the kids improve their analytical skills and self-confidence.  It’s been a rewarding experience for the mentors and the mentees.

The Honor Roll was first launched by First Lady Michelle Obama in 2011 as a challenge to companies to encourage their employees to become volunteer youth mentors.
