Daniel J. Baker is a Partner in our Real Estate and Land Use and Zoning Practice Groups. He represents clients on real estate transaction matters, land use and zoning issues, and industrial development agency (IDA) benefits.
His roster of clients runs the gamut from “mom and pop” operations and local developers to national and international shopping center owners and retailers. He also advises clients on local laws and customs, which help facilitate the navigation through the real estate and municipal processes.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Baker was a Partner at Sahn Ward Coschignano & Baker, PLLC, where he practiced in the areas of real estate, land use and zoning, environmental, tax certiorari and condemnation, corporate law, civil litigation and criminal defense.
He began his career at a Mineola law firm, and practiced in the areas of real estate tax certiorari and condemnation, real property law and general real estate law. From 1997 until 2001, Mr. Baker was an associate at Certilman Balin where he concentrated on real estate transactions, public and private sector labor law, employment and discrimination law, municipal law, civil litigation and criminal defense.
Active with his alma mater and in his community, Mr. Baker is a member of the Touro Law Center Alumni Association, a member of the Touro Law Center Dean’s Advisory Council, and Co-Vice Chair of the Board of Touro Law Center’s Institute of Land Use and Sustainable Development Law. In 2017 Mr. Baker was honored with the Law School Service Award and in 2019 with the Paul S. Miller Award. In 2017, Long Island Business News recognized him with a Leadership in Law Award.
He serves as the Tenth Judicial District Representative to the Real Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, as a member of the Advisory Board of the Chicago Title Insurance Company, and as an appointed member of the State of New York Commission on Quality Care for the Mentally Disabled Surrogate Decision Making Committee (SDMC) Program. He was Chairman of the Real Property Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association from 2010-2012.
Mr. Baker served, for 15 years, as a Trustee of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Long Island Chapter. He has also served as the Co-Chair of the Nassau County Bar Association Real Property Law Committee.
Mr. Baker graduated from the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center at Touro College, after earning his
his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Albany.
Admitted to practice in the State of New York and before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, he has achieved the highest professional rating by Martindale Hubbell. He is a member of the American, New York State and Nassau County Bar Associations.
