Casey E. Murphy is an Associate in the Estate and Tax Planning/Probate Law and Estate Administration Department and Elder Law Group at Certilman Balin. While pursuing her law degree on a part-time basis at night, Ms. Murphy worked as a paralegal in this practice group for a year and a half.
In her role as a paralegal, Ms. Murphy worked closely with our attorneys on all Surrogate’s Court matters, including preparing and filing probate, administration, and SCPA Article 17 guardianship proceedings. She advised and assisted clients with estate asset collection, preparing estate accountings, and obtaining Releases from beneficiaries. She also prepared and assisted in the filing of Federal and New York State Estate Tax Returns.
During law school and prior to joining Certilman Balin, Ms. Murphy honed her experience as a paralegal for a sole practitioner on Long Island, where she worked primarily on MHL Article 81 and SCPA Article 17-A guardianship proceedings. She also interned with a Manhattan-based sole practitioner through the NYSBA Real Property Law Section Internship Program where she gained invaluable experience working in construction law, commercial litigation, and real estate transactions.
Ms. Murphy earned her Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law in 2021. At St. John’s, Ms. Murphy was a member of the Real Property Law Society and mentored first year law students. She graduated from Loyola University Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in psychology and a minor in sociology. She was also a member of the International Honor Society in Psychology (Psi Chi) and Alpha Kappa Delta, which promotes high scholarship and scholarly endeavors.
Community-minded, after graduating from Loyola Maryland, Ms. Murphy volunteered for a year through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps at Providence Center, a not-for-profit organization based in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As Providence Center’s Youth Organizer, Ms. Murphy mentored eight local high school students through the college application process and supervised the K-8 after-school program.
Ms. Murphy is admitted to practice in the state of New York.
